The Pottstown Mercury likes HB 2072 better than SB 1. The Allentown Morning Call agrees, but thinks that both versions of the law lack teeth to enforce the more stringent regulations, while The Erie Times-News suggests that Pennsylvanians “cross their fingers” and hope for reform.
The Pottsville Republican & Herald says that any open records law should treat the Legislature the same as the other branches of state government.
The Wilkes-Barre Citizens’ Voice has published the names and numbers of local representatives to urge readers to call about open records.
The Uniontown Herald Standard has interviewed several freshman Representatives about legislative reform in the House and Senate.
The commentary on Joe Paterno’s salary has died down a bit, but there still are a few rumblings: The York Daily Record asks why Penn State put up such a lengthy, expensive fight, and so did the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The Easton Express Times calls the coach a “Penn State Treasure“, the Beaver County Times & Allegheny Times “a bargain ” and the Wilkes-Barre Citizens’ Voice says he’s a real asset to Penn State. In the meantime, the Patriot News speculates as to how Paterno can boost his income.
