News Roundup - the clock’s ticking.

Well…it’s been a busy week here in Harrisburg. Lots of events that make Pennsylvanians think twice about how open the state should be. The Pocono Record thinks that Pennsylvanians should be “rioting over misspent tax dollars and unnecessary secrecy. They ought to demand the best government, answers and accountability from their public officials. Democracy is supposed to be open.” I guess we have to stay tuned - and on the edge of our seats. As the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette notes, our legislators (whom Tony Phyrillas calls a “do-nothing Legislature“) have a full plate of bills.
On Wednesday, the Senate panel approved the latest version of SB1, reports the Morning Call, “setting up a give-and-take with the House.” Kim DeBourbon of the Freedom of Information Coalition wrote an op-ed piece for the Morning Call today that says SB1 offers the best hope for reform. In the same paper, John Micek writes that if we get open records reform, we might find out how much JoePa makes.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks…
