Text of October 10 media advisory.
Advocates, citizens and lawmakers will push for a stronger state Right To Know Law as debate on open records legislation is possible in next week
WHAT: The Pennsylvania Newspaper Association, citizens and lawmakers will speak out on the need for a stronger Open Records Law - one that will put Pennsylvania in line with most other states.
WHO: PNA, winners of the recent Open Records Challenge, Senators Pileggi and Ferlo and Rep. Mahoney, and citizens groups, such as Pennsylvania Freedom of Information Coalition, will attend.
WHEN: Monday, October 15, at 11 a.m.
WHERE: Capitol Rotunda
BACKGROUND: Voters have been demanding that lawmakers pass a stronger open records law. PNA and other groups believe now is the time to enact legislation that creates a law providing greater access to public information. It is a critical time to look at what is needed for real open records reform, because lawmakers are expected to take up the issue in the next week.
