Mark your calendars, weekly news roundup

A quick blurb about the news that’s been circulating around PA this week…
The Uniontown Herald-Standard wrote about open records reform that’s expected for fall. They also highlighted the House State Government Committee’s Aug. 7 hearing on Rep. Mahoney’s HB 443.
On Thursday, the Allentown Morning Call editorialized on the availability of PA’s state records online. They even provided easy-to-follow directions:
he easiest way to find the statutes, an index and the search tool is to go to the General Assembly’s Web page at http://www.legis.state.pa.us/ and look under ”Law Information” for the ”Consolidated Statutes” link.
And on Friday, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review’s columnist Dmitri Vassilaros says the good news about open records in PA is that we’re not last!
Although the Democratic House will pass Rep Mahoney’s Open Records bill by late Septeber ( the House returns on 17th to debate transportation bills and returns to legislative session on the 24th ) or early October, the delay in Senate is inexplicable. This was a campaign issue in May 2006 primaries and has been discussed since Payjacking of July 7th of 2005. It seems as if the Senate Republicans are hiding something in the caucus spending.
Is there some intent to run a Statute of Limiations on illegal activity. There is no justifiable reason for Senate delay. Sen Pileggi has a bill ( originally without presumption that government records were public records and since amended ) and so does Sen Ferlo.
