One small bump . . .

. . . in one long road?
One indication that open records change isn’t very high in the legislative agenda is that it may be years before anything happens, according to a report by Ed Blazina in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “The commission expects to make recommendations in June, but because any changes will require constitutional amendments or new laws, the reforms could be years away.”
Another is that at the hearing yesterday in Pittsburgh, held by the Speaker’s Commission on Legislative Reform to discuss the second phase of its work - which will concentrate on the state’s open records law, campaign financing, the size of the Legislature and whether there should be term limits for legislators - legislators talked about reforming campaign contributions, about term limits, and about reducing the size of the legislature. They did not talk about open records.
Hmmm. I wonder why. We need to get this issue out in the open where it belongs.
